The Global Predicament

photo of David Orr

David Orr, chairman of the Environmental Studies program at Oberlin College and author of 5 books, spoke at UW-Eau Claire this past April. His talk was passionate, thoughtful, challenging and inspirational, as it discussed the dangers and hopes surrounding the fate of life on this planet.

David barnstorms the country yearly, and his talks are not to be missed. This is an abridgement of the presentation at UW-EC on 4/19/2007 without, of course, the visuals and much more.

David Orr - The Global Predicament

Audio file

Our knowledge and ability to think critically have been seriously undermined by a determined effort we know as advertising - which bypasses logical though and appeals to the Id as conceived by Sigmund Freud
David Orr shares a couple ads, primed to appeal to the Id, which are squarely anti-environmental.
A fundamental principle of the work to save the planet is the equal regard we must have for those who will inherit the Earth - our posterity.
This environmental work is sacred, regardless of your faith or faithlessness.
A member of the audience asks about the need for an "eco-religion".
