Ecuador to Palestine, Worldwide Community, & Intentional Community: Spee & Jens Braun

Jens and Spee Braun

Few people have quite such wide roots across the globe, both the motivation & outgrowth of a life of compassionate work in many countries. Jens Braun grew up in Ecuador, the son of parents who had worked as missionaries and with the Peace Corps. After college in the US, his curious nose took him for a term to Ramallah Friends School, in the Palestinian West Bank, and his connection with Spee Beer there, eventually Spee Braun, led them to work in a number of countries, including Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Sudan, Gaza, Iraq, Kenya, Zambia, and with organizations like Save the Children, and in other positions, close to the people & the realities of many nations. Further work include dedicated service to Connecticut Friends School, the Alternative to Violence Project (AVP), and the establishment of QIVC – Quaker Intentional Village-Canaan. Their experience & service has been rich, including a bird's eye view of the Middle East, and life-long energy to heal the world. They live in East Chatham, NY.

Thank you for this wonderful interview. The idea of living life with intention and reflection are such powerful ideas and it was very enlightening to hear how Spee and Jens have done that in their lives.

Hi Mark! I have lived at QIVC for over twenty years, side by side with Spee and Jens. I thought I knew them! Your interested curiosity elicited stories I hadn't heard and details of stories I had heard but which were enriched by the details. I enjoyed deepening my respect and love for these two due to your skillful interview. Thank you!

Thank you, Mark, for using your excellent interviewing skills to help us articulate how we've approached our lives and for sharing our story through Northern Spirit Radio.
