Flute
Living Music, Sacred Flute
Peter Phippen is best known, perhaps, as a master of the flute - actually many different types of flutes, including those of Native American origin. That is, in fact, what earned him a Grammy nomination back in 2010. But Peter is all about all music, so you'll also frequently encounter him rocking out on his bass and whatever other form of music and instrumentation the moment calls for. In particular, his ability to improvise soul-deep on his flutes is known to transport listeners young and old.
Flute & Longing with Lisa Wildman
Regular Song of the Soul listeners know how much I love singer-songwriter/folk & music, and it was some of that sort of music that first attracted me to Lisa Wildman, but that only scratches the surface of the music that Lisa makes. As you'll hear today, classical music played exquisitely on her flute is deep in her bones, and we won't even be hearing from the country, zydeco, and opera music she does. Besides playing and singing with orchestras, her collaborations include performing with the folk music-oriented Group W, and the children's music-oriented with Peanut Butter Jellyfish. She was on Song of the Soul in 2010.
Bewitching
Victoria Shoemaker is a multi-instrumentalist with a deep affinity & talent for the flute. Classically trained, but having discovered her deep passion in improvisational flute, and having been mentored by Eau Claire’s grammy-nominated flute artist, Peter Phippen, Victoria’s gifts are impressive and diverse. She rocks, folks, classicals & can definitely spin ethereal music of the spheres. Plus she’s been twice nominated for the People’s Choice Award for Best Music Teacher in NW Wisconsin. All this and she is still a few years away from 30. Also, catch her onstage with Peter Phippen in the mini rock duo Virginia Steel.
Peter Phippen's Song of the Soul
Peter Phippen started his musical career playing bass in a country western band, making good money, at the age of only 12. His search for the instrument of his soul was fulfilled when he met the bamboo flute 23 years ago. He's a regional icon on the flute, as both a composer and performer. Raised mostly non-religious, Peter considers himself a spiritualist with great affection for the Tao Te Ching.
Tim Lane's Song of the Soul
Tim Lane has been teaching in the Music Department of the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, since 1989, flute being his instrument of choice. His taste in music ranges from chorales and classical to Motown and world music. Raised non-religious, he now attends Eau Claire Friends Meeting (Quakers).
